Illumination and calligraphy on medieval parchment or Egyptian papyrus
using gold leaf and tempera (pigments).
Gifts, certificates, bookmarks, genealogy scrolls, etc..
Illumination is an art from the middle-ages : natural pigments, gold leaves and oak-apple inks were used, on real parchment. I try to use these methods as much as I can to make my works, for exhibitions, demonstrations and courses.
I only use middle-ages techniques for illumination
this means without any use of modern stuff such as ready-to-use paints, "vegetal parchment" etc... - which not only are inproper for illumination, but for some opposite to the sheer art (stencils, printed underlinings, etc..)
see the Illuminators' charter
I also make my own parchment,
in order to have it as close to the middle-ages as possible : only with skins and lime. When I use other techniques, my works bear another name (calligraphy, oil paintings, etc..)
( ilumination, caligraphy, genelogy, genalogy, caligrafi, parchement, parchemant )
